Creating an Alarm from a Custom Metric Chart

Passively monitor cloud resources with an alarm. Copy a query from the metric chart on the Metrics Explorer page to the Create Alarm page. Creating an alarm from a query involves adding a condition, or trigger rule, to the query and setting up notifications.

This page describes how to create an alarm from a query in the metric chart on the Metrics Explorer page. To create an alarm from a default metric chart, see Creating an Alarm from a Default Metric Chart. For more information about alarms, see Alarms Feature Overview.

  1. Create a basic query on the Metrics Explorer page.
  2. If the query isn't open, open it by clicking Edit queries.
  3. If more than one query is displayed, then click Edit query (Edit query) for the one that you want.
  4. Click Create Alarm.
  5. Provide the rest of the information needed to create the alarm.
For reference, see Creating a Basic Alarm.
  6. Click Save alarm.
The new alarm is displayed on the Alarm Definitions page.
