Registering an Instance

A newly created Autonomous Linux instance automatically registers with the Autonomous Linux service using a service-provided registration profile. You can also choose your own profile when creating the instance.

Autonomous Linux uses the OS Management Hub service to manage updates and patches on instances. The instance must have the OS Management Hub Agent plugin enabled to register with the Autonomous Linux service. A newly created Autonomous Linux instance automatically has the OS Management Hub Agent plugin enabled.

Important

The OS Management Hub Oracle Cloud Agent plugin must be minimum version 1.40. Instances using platform images released before April 2024 have an older version of the plugin, but automatically update to the latest available version. There could be a registration delay of up to an hour for these instances. Either wait or manually upgrade the Oracle Cloud Agent to 1.40 or later.

New OCI Instance

  1. Follow the steps to create an instance, but use the following settings.
  2. For the image, select an Oracle Autonomous Linux platform image.
  3. (Optional) Select a registration profile (by default, Autonomous Linux uses the service-provided profile).
    1. Click Show Advanced Options.
    2. On the Oracle Cloud Agent tab, unselect the OS Management Hub Agent and reselect it.
    3. Select a profile to register the instance.
  4. Click Create.

Verify Instance Registration and Details

Verify the instance registered with Autonomous Linux.

  1. Open the navigation menu and click Observability & Management. Under Autonomous Linux, click Instances.
  2. Under List scope, select the compartment that contains the instance.
  3. Confirm the instance appears in the table, and verify the status is Active.

To troubleshoot registration issues, see Registration Failed for Instance.

If the instance name displays as UNKNOWN, see Known Issue: Instance name shows as UNKNOWN.

  4. Click the name of the instance to view its details.

Under Instance information, you can view details about the instance, such as the registration profile it used to register with the service and whether it's a member of a group, if applicable.

    Note

The instance might take a few minutes to report the initial package and module inventory to the service.
