Connection Properties for Data Assets

Enter the required details while adding a connection to a data asset in Data Catalog.

Oracle Database

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your Oracle Database username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your Oracle Database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your Oracle Database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option, to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault, for the password associated with your Oracle Database username. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Oracle Database username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Enable TLS: Select this check box to enable TLS for this connection.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Oracle Object Storage Database

Add connection for Oracle Object Storage Database by entering the following details in the Add Connection panel:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select one of the following:
    • Resource Principal - Resource Principal is the recommended connection type. Before you create a Resource Principal connection for your Oracle Object Storage data asset, you must create a policy to allow Data Catalog to access the Object Storage resource. See creating a policy and the Required IAM Policies.
    • Pre-Authenticated Request - Select this connection type to harvest a public or private object storage bucket for which you have access through a pre-authenticated request. When you select this connection type, the Pre-Authenticated Request URL field appears—enter the pre-authenticated request URL to access the object storage bucket. For more information about using this type of connection, see Using Pre-Authenticated Requests.
  • OCI Region: Enter the region identifier for your Object Storage resource. To view the region identifier for your region in the Console, from the Profile menu click Tenancy: <your_tenancy_name>. From the Manage Regions info banner, click Manage Regions. The region names and identifiers are listed.
  • Compartment: Select the compartment for your Object Storage resource. To view the compartment, in the Console, open the navigation menu, click Identity & Security. Under Identity, click Compartments. Click the compartment link for your Object Storage resource. In the Compartment details page, copy the OCID under the Compartment Information tab.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

MySQL

Add connection for MySQL by entering the following details in the Add Connection panel:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your MySQL database username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your MySQL database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your MySQL database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your MySQL database username. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your MySQL database username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Autonomous Database

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select Generic.
  • User Wallet: Select this option to upload the file with the client credentials that's downloaded from the autonomous database. When you select this option, the following fields appear:
    • Wallet: Upload the file with the client credentials that's downloaded from your autonomous database. For more information, see downloading client credentials.
    • TNS Alias: From the TNS Alias list, select a TNS Alias. For better performance, select the <name>_low option.
    • User Name: Enter the admin username that's set when the autonomous database is created.
    • Password: Enter the password for the autonomous database admin username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your PostgreSQL database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your PostgreSQL database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the client credentials file and file password. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the following fields appear:
    • Vault Secret OCID for Wallet: Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the wallet. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
    • User Name: Enter the admin username that's set when the autonomous database is created.
    • Vault Secret OCID for Password: Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for password for the autonomous database admin username.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

PostgreSQL

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your PostgreSQL database username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your PostgreSQL database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your PostgreSQL database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with the PostgreSQL database username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with the PostgreSQL database username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Microsoft SQL Server

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your Microsoft SQL Server database username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your Microsoft SQL Server database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your Microsoft SQL Server database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Microsoft SQL Server database username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for password associated with your Microsoft SQL Server database username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Microsoft Azure SQL Database

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your Microsoft Azure SQL database username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your Microsoft Azure SQL database username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your Microsoft Azure SQL database username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Microsoft Azure SQL database username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Passwordfield appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Microsoft Azure SQL database username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

IBM DB2

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your IBM DB2 username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your IBM DB2 username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your IBM DB2 username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your IBM DB2 username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Passwordfield appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your IBM DB2 username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Apache Hive

In the Add Connection panel, enter the following details:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select JDBC.
  • User Name: Enter your Apache Hive username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your Apache Hive username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your Apache Hive username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Apache Hive username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, the Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Apache Hive username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.

Apache Kafka

In the Add Connection panel, enter the details as follows:

  • Name: Enter a unique name for your connection.
  • Description: Enter a short description for your connection.
  • Type: Select Generic.
  • User Name: Enter your Kafka username.
  • Use Password: Select this option to enter the password associated with your Kafka username. When you select this option, the Password field appears. Enter the password associated with your Kafka username.
  • Use Vault Secret OCID: Select this option to enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Kafka username. See Required IAM Policies for using OCI Vault. When you select this option, Vault Secret OCID for Password field appears. Enter the OCID of the secret that's created in OCI Vault for the password associated with your Kafka username. For information about copying the secret OCID, see Managing Vault Secrets.
  • Enable TLS: Select this check box to enable TLS for this connection.
  • Make this the default connection for the data asset: Select this check box to make this connection the default connection for the data asset.
  • Test Connection: Click the button to test your connection.
