Oracle Cloud Database Metrics

You can monitor the health, capacity, and performance of your Oracle Cloud Databases by using metrics, alarms, and notifications. This section describes the metrics emitted by Database Management in the oracle_oci_database namespace for Oracle Cloud Databases.

Oracle Cloud Databases are Oracle Databases running on the following Oracle Database cloud solutions:

  • Base Database Service
  • Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure (ExaDB-D)
  • Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer (ExaDB-C@C)

The metrics for Oracle Cloud Databases help measure useful quantitative data, such as CPU and storage utilization, the number of successful and failed database logon and connection attempts, database operations, SQL queries, and transactions. You can use the metrics data to diagnose and troubleshoot issues.

Note

Certain key metrics are available for the Base Database Service, ExaDB-D, and ExaDB-C@C without enabling Database Management. These metrics are emitted in the oci_database and oci_database_cluster namespaces by the Database service, and you can use them to monitor Oracle Databases and Exadata VM clusters. Irrespective of whether Database Management is enabled or not, the metrics displayed on the Base Database Service, ExaDB-D, and ExaDB-C@C pages are emitted by the Database service. For information on the metrics and dimensions related to the oci_database and oci_database_cluster namespaces, see:

If you've already enabled Database Management, you can continue to view all the metrics in the oracle_oci_database namespace. In addition, you can enable Database Management with the Full management option for advanced metrics and features such as fleet monitoring and SQL Tuning Advisor. For information on management options, see About Management Options. Note that enabling Database Management does not emit metrics for Exadata VM clusters, and in such a case you can use the metrics emitted by the Database service (oci_database_cluster namespace) and for Oracle Databases, you can use the metrics emitted by Database Management (oracle_oci_database namespace).

Dimensions

The metrics for Oracle Cloud Databases include the following dimensions.

Dimension Description
resourceId The OCID of the database.
resourceName The name of the database.
resourceType The type of database, for example, NON_CDB.
deploymentType The deployment type of the database.

Valid alarm intervals are 5 minutes or greater due to the frequency at which these metrics are emitted. For information on how to create alarms, see Managing Alarms.

Retention period is set for 90 days. For information on retention periods, see Storage Limits.

The database metrics are provided for the Basic and Full management options. If you've enabled Database Management with the Full management option, then the Full management metrics are available to you in addition to the Basic management metrics. For information on management options, see About Management Options.
