Creating a Cluster

When you create a cluster, OCI Cache creates the set of Compute instances that provide caching functionality.

Each non-sharded cluster is composed of one primary node and optionally one or more data nodes, based on the options that you specify when you create the cluster.

For reliability purposes, we recommend a minimum three node cluster configuration. Reliability isn't guaranteed for one to two node cluster configurations.

Each sharded cluster is composed of a minimum of three shards, with each shard composed of one primary node, and optionally one to four data nodes, based on the options you specify when you create the cluster. The maximum number of nodes per sharded cluster is 100, for more information, see Sharded Clusters.
Caution

Clusters can only be created in subnets that don't have IPv6 enabled. If you select an existing subnet with IPv6 enabled, cluster creation fails.
    1. On the Clusters list page, select Create cluster. If you need help finding the list page, see Listing Clusters.
    2. Enter a name for the cluster, select the compartment to create the cluster in, and then select Next.
    3. Select the cluster type, Non-sharded or Sharded.
    4. Optionally change the cluster node configuration options.

      For non-sharded clusters, you can change the node count for the cluster, selecting between one to five nodes. For sharded clusters, you can change the number of shard per cluster and the number of nodes per shard.

      You can change the amount of memory in GB configured per node for both cluster types. After you're done updating the settings, select Next.

    5. In Configure networking specify the virtual cloud network (VCN) and subnet for the cluster. Decide whether you want to use an existing VCN and subnet, create a new VCN or subnet, or specify the OCID for an existing subnet. You can't change the cluster's subnet after the cluster has been created.

      If you select an existing VCN or subnet, you can optionally select up to five network security groups (NSGs) for the cluster. The NSGs must already be created for the VCN.

      Important

      The NSG you select must contain a rule configured to allow traffic to the cluster's VNIC using specific protocols and ports. For more information, see Security Rule for Connecting to Clusters.

    6. Select Next and review the cluster confirmation details on the Summary page.
    7. Select Create cluster.

    The cluster you created appears in the list of clusters.
