Testing a Filename Pattern

Test a filename pattern before assigning it to a data asset.

    1. On the Home tab of the instance for which you want to test a filename pattern, from the Quick actions section, click Manage filename patterns.
    2. On the Filename Patterns page, click the filename pattern that you want to test.
    3. On the filename pattern details page, click Test.
    4. In the Test Expression panel, enter the test filenames and click Test Expression.
    5. Verify the resulting logical data entities and click Close. If the results are not what you require, edit the filename pattern and enter a different expression.
Your filename pattern expression is successfully verified. You can now assign this pattern to a data asset. During harvest, these patterns are used to derive logical data entities.
  • Use the validate command and required parameters to test a filename pattern expression:

    oci data-catalog pattern validate [OPTIONS]

For a complete list of flags and variable options for CLI commands, see the CLI Command Reference.

  • Run the ValidatePattern operation to validate filename patterns.
