OCI's Databse service has enhanced the capabilities of Database Software Images for patching and creating databases on bare metal and virtual machine DB systems. Changes include:

You can now create a database software image based on any currently supported Oracle Database release update (RU).

You can create a standby database for a Data Guard association with any custom image supported by the Database Home of the primary database.

You can patch databases with any image based on the most current Oracle Database software release, or with an image based on any of the three most recent releases of a major Oracle Database software version.
