MySQL HeatWave now supports MySQL database 8.4.0 and 8.0.37 versions. MySQL 8.4.0 is the first version of a new Long Term Support (LTS) release based on the MySQL 8.3.0 Innovation release. LTS means no features will be removed or added in subsequent versions in the same series, only security and bug fixes will be applied. MySQL 8.0.37 is a bugfix version of the 8.0 series, it contains only security and bug fixes with no feature change as compared to MySQL 8.0.36. Newly created DB systems are now based on the 8.4.0 version, you can optionally select 8.0.37 or other available version when creating a new DB system. For existing DB systems, you must manually upgrade the DB system, such as from version 8.3.0 to 8.4.0 or 8.0.36 to 8.0.37.

Both versions, 8.4.0 LTS and 8.0.37 Bugfix, are of production-grade quality. If you are keen to leverage the most recent advancements and enhancements, and stay abreast of cutting-edge technologies, then the new MySQL 8.4.x LTS release might be the best fit for you. On the other hand, if your existing application requires established behavior, then 8.0.x releases are more suitable.
