Transferring Storage

Transfer storage to another pool by deleting the existing pool and then attaching the storage to a new pool in Secure Desktops.

Note

To perform this task, you must be the desktop administrator.

Storage volumes are associated with a particular user. The service retains volumes associated with deleted desktops unless you also choose to delete the volume. Therefore, you can transfer the storage to a new desktop by associating the user with the new pool.

Storage transfer requires that both the existing desktop pool and new desktop pool have been created in the same availability domain and compartment. Additionally, desktops must be of the same image operating system type. Storage transfer between Linux and Windows desktops is not supported.

  1. Delete the existing pool. Do not select the option to delete the storage volume associated with the pool.
  2. Create a new desktop pool. Ensure that you create this pool in the same availability domain and compartment as the existing pool deleted in the previous step.
  3. Start the new pool.
  4. When the desktop user opens a desktop in that pool, Secure Desktops attaches to the desktop any storage it finds in the compartment that is associated with that desktop user.
