Create an Elastic Pool

You can create an elastic pool using an existing Autonomous Database instance, while provisioning an Autonomous Database, or while cloning an Autonomous Database.

Note

Only Autonomous Transaction Processing databases that use ECPU compute model without Autonomous Data Guard can create an elastic pool.

Create an Elastic Pool Using an Existing Autonomous Database

Follow these steps to create an elastic pool using the Oracle Cloud Infrastructure console.
  1. Go to the Details page of the Autonomous Database using which you want to create an elastic pool.
  2. On the Autonomous Database Details page, select Manage resource allocation.
  3. On the Manage resource allocation dialog, verify if Compute auto scaling is disabled. If Compute auto scaling is enabled already, disable it by deselecting Compute auto scaling and clicking Apply.

    The lifecycle state changes to Scaling in Progress. After some time the lifecycle state changes to Available.

  4. Once the Autonomous Database lifecycle state changes to Available, click Manage resource allocation again.
  5. Click Show advanced options.
  6. In the Elastic pool section:
    1. Select the Enable elastic pool check box.
    2. Select the Create an elastic pool option.
    3. Select a pool size for the Pool ECPU count field from available list of pool shapes: 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, or 4906.
  7. Click Apply.
The Lifecycle state changes to UPDATING. The changes apply immediately after the Lifecycle state changes to Available.
After you create an elastic pool, click Manage resource allocation to display the elastic pool information. In the Elastic pool section, you can see Elastic pool as Enabled, Pool role as Leader, and Pool ECPU count same as what you selected while creating the elastic pool.

Create an Elastic Pool While Provisioning or Cloning an Autonomous Database

Follow these steps to create an elastic pool when you provision or clone an Autonomous Database instance:.
  1. Launch the Create Autonomous Database or Clone Autonomous Database page following the steps documented in Create an Autonomous Database or Clone an Autonomous Database.
  2. In the Configure the database section:
    1. Deselect Compute auto scaling.
    2. Click Show advanced options.
    3. In the Elastic pool section, select the Enable elastic pool check box.
    4. Select the Create an elastic pool option.
    5. Select a pool size for the Pool ECPU count field from available list of pool shapes: 128, 256, 512, 1024, 2048, or 4906.
  3. Continue with the remaining steps in creating or cloning the Autonomous Database.
