Enable Cross-service Dashboards

You can make a dashboard available to other supported Observability & Management services by enabling the cross-service feature.

Using the cross-service feature, a dashboard can be used by multiple Observability & Management services and insights can be obtained in different areas for a resource. For example, a database performance dashboard can be created in Database Management and enabled for use in Operations Insights.

You can enable the cross-service feature when a creating a new dashboard or by editing an existing dashboard.

Enable Cross-service for a New Dashboard

You can enable the cross-service feature when creating a custom dashboard.

  1. Go to the Dashboards page in the Observability & Management service.
  2. Click Create dashboard.
For information on the general steps to create a custom dashboard, see Create a Custom Dashboard.
  3. On the About tab, select the Enable for cross-service check box.
  4. On the Widgets tab, select the compartment and add Oracle-defined widgets from the list of available widgets or create a custom widget for the dashboard.
    Note

    • For cross-service dashboards, the list of available Oracle-defined widgets and filters only include those that are also enabled for cross-service use. For example, in Database Management dashboards, if the Enable for cross-service check box is selected, then certain Oracle-defined widgets such as Current logons are not listed on the Widgets tab and cannot be used in the cross-service dashboard. However, all Oracle-defined widgets and filters for Logging Analytics are enabled for cross-service use.
    • On the Widgets and Filters tabs, click the Launch widgets/filters table view icon (Launch widgets/filters table view) to view the widget or filter library in a tabular format and select Cross-service in the Widget type or Filter type drop-down list to only view the widgets and filters for which the cross-service feature is enabled.
    • If you're creating a custom query-based widget for a cross-service enabled dashboard, then you must ensure that the Enable for cross-service check box is selected in the query-based widget builder. For information, see Create a Query-based Widget.
  5. Click Save changes to save the dashboard.
The cross-service enabled dashboard is listed on the Dashboards page of other Observability and Management services, and Cross-service is displayed in the Dashboard type column.

To disable the cross-service feature for a dashboard, open the dashboard in edit mode and deselect the Enable for cross-service check box on the About tab.

Enable Cross-service for an Existing Dashboard

You can enable the cross-service feature for an existing dashboard.

  1. Go to the Dashboards page in the Observability & Management service.
  2. Click the name of the existing database for which you want to enable the cross-service feature.
To enable the cross-service feature for an Oracle-defined dashboard, you must first duplicate it and create a copy. For information, see Customize an Oracle-defined Dashboard.
  3. On the About tab, select the Enable for cross-service check box.
If there are widgets and filters in the dashboard that are not enabled for cross-service use, then a message is displayed listing such widgets and filters and you must remove them from the dashboard before selecting the Enable for cross-service check box.
  4. Click Save changes to save the dashboard.
