Analyze Host Storage Usage
Ops Insights lets you view current storage usage and availability as well as trend, insight and forecast on existing filesystems for both individual hosts and across multiple hosts.
Analyze Available Storage Usage
You can analyze your host’s storage utilization by using the Host Capacity Planning application to view and compare detailed information across one or more hosts. In the host summary page you can view a summary of the Change and Utilization as well as Storage Insights, Top Storage Consumers (filtered by: Usage [TB], Usage Change [%], Utilization [%]) and Storage Usage trend.
For a complete view of storage capacity usage across all Ops Insights enabled hosts, click Storage under Hosts in the left navigation menu.
By default, you view comprehensive storage usage information for each host. This lets you compare resource utilization between hosts and identify servers with underused or overused resources. If you have large numbers of hosts, you can search using the host display name.
- Compartment: Compartment location of the server.
- Platform Type: The following platforms are supported:
- Linux (including Ubuntu)
- Solaris
- Windows
- zLinux
- AIX
- HP-UX
- Usage (TB): Amount of storage capacity utilized expressed in terabytes.
- Allocation (TB): Amount of storage capacity allocated to a specific host expressed in terabytes.
- Utilization (%): Percent of total amount of storage capacity currently utilized.
- Usage Change (%): Total delta percentage usage change in storage capacity.
- Ops Insights State: Current state of the host, will show enabled, disabled, or terminated depending on the host state.
Analyze Trend and Forecast Storage Usage
Selecting a host from the Storage usage (Insights) table, you can view storage utilization as well as the trend and usage forecast for that host. Alternatively, you can also specify the breakdown by Filesystem to view trend and forecast analysis for all filesystems running on that host.
By default, trending and forecasting are calculated using linear regression. For more advanced analysis, you can have Ops Insights use machine learning to perform the trending and forecasting.
Unallocated Storage
Selecting a host from the Storage usage (Insights) table, you can view the unallocated storage for the host. Once the host is selected scroll down to the Unallocated space table. This table will show all disks with unallocated space, meaning space not assigned to partitions or filesystems. If there are no disks with unallocated storage, no disks will be shown on this table.
- Unallocated space (TB): Amount of storage capacity not allocated to filesystem or partition for a specific host expressed in terabytes.
- Allocation (TB): Amount of storage capacity allocated to a specific host expressed in terabytes.
- Utilization (%): Percent of total amount of storage capacity currently utilized.
- Total size (TB): Total size of the disk expressed in terabytes.
