Enabling Exadata Systems and Cloud Service Databases
Ops Insights allows you to use the Capacity Planning and SQL Insights functionality to gain insight into Oracle Databases deployed in Oracle Cloud (Bare Metal, Virtual Machine VM, Exadata Cloud Service, and Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer).
Note
Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Cloud@Customer and Database Machine support is available via the Enterprise Manager telemetry. See Add Exadata Systems Monitored by Enterprise Manager.
Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, Cloud@Customer and Database Machine support is available via the Enterprise Manager telemetry. See Add Exadata Systems Monitored by Enterprise Manager.
Using Ops Insights on Oracle Cloud Databases, Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure, and Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer systems allows you to:
- Analyze resource usage of databases across cloud databases
- Forecast future demand for database resources such as CPU, memory, and storage based on historical trends
- Compare SQL performance across databases and identify common patterns
- Monitor ASM disk group usage.
- Analyze storage server (cell) I/O/Throughput.
The following Exadata systems can be enabled for Ops Insights:

How to Choose the Correct Monitoring Method
- Benefits to monitoring via Enterprise Manager
- You are already using Enterprise Manager for managing Exadata Systems, this allows for reduced amount of duplicate data collections
- You are already managing credentials via Enterprise Manager and do not need to manage monitoring credentials on the cloud-side.
- You use or require the use of target property propagation into OCI Tags
- You use deeper cell metrics (IORM metrics)
- Benefits to monitoring via Management Agent (for Exadata Database Service on Cloud@Customer):
- You use or intend to use O&M services like: Database Management, Logging Analytics, and Stackmon that also use the Management Agent
- You are not a pre-existing Enterprise Manager user, or you do not want data sent from on-premises into the Cloud
- You use contextual linking, syncing of standard tags, and other OCI resources that use Management Agent
- You use OCI vault for credential management
- Benefits to monitoring via Private Endpoint (for Exadata Database Service on Dedicated Infrastructure):
- You do not want to manage any agents as part of data collection
- You already use other O&M services like Database Management that use Private Endpoint
- You are not a pre-existing Enterprise Manager user, or you do not want data sent from on-premises into the Cloud
- You use contextual linking, syncing of standard tags, and other OCI resources that use Management Agent
- You use OCI vault for credential management
