Managing Source Environments
A source environment in Oracle Cloud Migrations represents an on-premises environment (outside of OCI), such as an on-premises data center with VMware vCenter deployment.
A source environment contains logically or physically grouped set of external assets. You can specify information about compartment and network access policies for a source environment. These environment information is then applied to all the external assets.
After creating a source environment in the OCI Console, you install agents. Agents are virtual machines that provide network connectivity between your on-premises environment and OCI. They support VM data migration. You then register a remote agent appliance for the source environment, and begin the discovery and migration process.
Before you create a source environment, ensure that you complete the prerequisites for using Oracle Cloud Migrations.
