Object Storage Data Asset Properties

Data Integration needs specific permission to Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage to access metadata, and read and write data.

Important

Before you can create a Service-to-Service (S2S) Principal connection for your Oracle Cloud Infrastructure Object Storage data asset, you must create a policy to allow Data Integration to access the Object Storage resource. See creating a policy and Policy Examples to Enable Access to OCI Object Storage under Policy Examples.

To create a data asset that connects to an Object Storage source, complete the following properties and connection details.

Field Description
Properties
Name

Enter a name for the data asset.

Identifier

The identifier is a system-generated value based on the name you specify. You can change the identifier value, but after you create and save the data asset, you cannot update the identifier.

Description

Add a description. This field is optional.

Type Displays the data asset type based on the icon you select in the Select data asset type panel. For more information, see Creating a Data Asset.
Tenancy OCID

The Oracle Cloud ID of your current tenancy is automatically filled in. You can enter a cross-tenancy OCID to access resources in another tenancy.

To view the tenancy OCID string in the Console, from the Profile menu click Tenancy:<your_tenancy_name>. You can find the tenancy OCID under Tenancy information.

Connecting to an Object Storage data asset in another tenancy requires cross-tenancy policies. For information about the required cross-tenancy policies and the process to create them, click View documentation in the information box that appears when you enter a cross-tenancy OCID. If you don't have permission to create the policies, send them to an administrator to add.

Namespace

The Namespace field is auto-filled for you, based on the Tenancy OCID value.

If the value is not auto-populated, enter the namespace for the Object Storage bucket.

OCI region

Select the region where buckets are created for your Object Storage resources. Alternatively, start typing the name in the field and then select from the filtered list of matching names.

The Object Storage data source that you set up as a source or target data asset in Data Integration is identified using the region ID, namespace, and bucket name. You do not encounter any issues when:

  • The source and target data assets have different region IDs, different namespaces, and different bucket names.
  • The source and target have the same bucket name but different region IDs and namespaces.
  • They have the same namespace but different region IDs and different bucket names.

However, if only the source and target data asset region IDs are different and the namespace and bucket names are the same, your tasks in Data Integration fails.

Enable policies to use data asset

Ignore the information that appears in the Enable policies to use data asset box when you use a cross-tenancy OCID.

Otherwise, click Show more information to view the details of the policy name and policy statements that are required to use the OCI Object Storage data asset. If you have already added the required policies, ignore the information box. Otherwise, specify the correct group name and compartment in the statements and add the policies.

If you're an administrator, you can add the policies by clicking Add policies. If you're not an administrator, click Copy policies and then send them to an administrator to add.

Default connection information
Name

Enter a name for the default connection.

Identifier

The identifier is a system-generated value based on the name you specify. You can change the identifier value, but after you create and save the connection, you can't update the identifier.

Description

Add a description. This field is optional.

(Optional) Test connection
Test connection

After you complete all the required fields, you can click Test connection to ensure that the connection can be established.

A success or failure message appears to indicate the result of the test. If the test fails, review your connection settings and try again. If the test fails because of missing policies, a list of policies that must be added appears in a box.

Ignore the information that appears in the Enable policies to connect successfully box when you use a cross-tenancy OCID.
