Exploring Data Catalog
You access all the data catalog objects that you create in the data catalog by exploring the data catalog.
To explore all the data assets you create in a data catalog, click Data Assets on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Data Assets.
The Data Asset tab displays a list of all data assets in your data catalog instance. Details for the data asset are listed, such as path, description, and so on. Use sort to specify how you want the results to be displayed.
You can search for a specific data asset by name. In the Search within data assets box, enter a complete or partial data asset name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshed to display data assets that match your search string.
Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the report. As you apply each filter, the list refreshes automatically. To refresh the Data Assets list at any time, click Refresh.
In the Data Assets list, click a data asset name to view details for the data asset.
Click the Actions menu for a data asset to perform other actions on the data asset.

Select View Details to modify data asset and connection details.

Select Harvest to harvest the data asset.

Select Delete to delete the data asset. A confirmation window displays. Type Delete to confirm you want to delete the data asset and then click Delete. Any harvested data entities or attributes in the data asset are also deleted.
- Select Copy Data Asset Key to copy the unique key for a data asset. You can use this key to provide granular access to users in your data catalog policies.
On the Data Assets tab, you can also create data assets and browse data assets.
To explore all the data entities you harvest in a data catalog, click Data Entities on the Home tab.
The Data Entities tab displays and all the data entities harvested from the data assets are listed. Details for the data entities are listed, such as path, type, and so on. Use the sort list to specify how you want the results to be displayed.
You can search for a specific data entity by name. In the Search within data entities box, enter a complete or partial data entity name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshed to display data entities that match your search string.
To refine the Data Entities list, use the available filters in the Filters section. As you apply each filter, the list is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Data Entities list at any time, click Refresh.
Click the Actions menu for a data entity to perform more actions on the data entity.

Select View Details to modify data entity details.

Select Delete to delete the data entity. A confirmation window displays. Type Delete to confirm you want to delete the data entity and then click Delete. Any harvested attributes in the data entity are also deleted.
On the Data Entities tab, you can also classify your data entities by adding business terms and free-form tags to your data entities. See terms and tags.
In the Data Entities list, click a data entity name to view and modify details for the data entity.
The value of the Character set default property in data entities harvested from an Object Storage data asset depends on a content encoding metadata that's set during upload of files into an Object Storage bucket. If this metadata isn't set during file upload, then Data Catalog shows the default value of UTF-8 for Character set.
The Data Entity details page appears with the following tabs:

The Summary tab displays the data entity information. You can link terms and tags to a data entity.

Click the Attributes tab to view attributes of the data entity. You can link terms and tags to one or more attributes.
To search for a specific attribute by name, in the Search within attributes box, enter a complete or partial attribute name and click the search icon or press enter. The list refreshes to display attributes that match your search string.
Click an attribute to open the attribute details tab. The attribute details tab displays attribute information. You can also link terms and tags to the attributes.

The Constraints tab displays constraint details that were harvested from relational data sources. Supported constraints types are primary key, unique key, and foreign key.
To search for a specific constraint by name, in the Search within constraints box, enter a complete or partial constraint name and click the search icon or press enter. The list refreshes to display constraints that match your search string.
Click the attribute link for a constraint to view the details of the attribute associated with the constraint.
For foreign key constraints, you can view the details of the referenced data entities, attributes, and constraints.
To explore all the attributes you harvest in a data catalog, click Attributes on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Attributes.
The Attributes tab displays and all the attributes harvested from the data assets are listed. Details for the attributes are listed, such as path, type, and so on. Use sort to specify how you want the results to be displayed.
To search for a specific attribute by name, in the Search within attributes box, enter a complete or partial attribute name and click the search icon or press enter. The list refreshes to display attributes that match your search string.
Attributes with simple data types, such as string or date, are listed as regular list entries. If an attribute has a complex data type, such as an array or a structure, it is listed with expandable nodes to view the relationship and hierarchy of the complex data type.

Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the report. As you apply each filter, the report is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Attributes list at any time, click Refresh.

To view an attribute's details, click the attribute name from the Attributes list. You can also click the Actions menu for an attribute and select View Details to view the attribute details. You can also link terms and tags to the attributes.
To explore all the filename patterns you create in a data catalog, click Manage Filename Patterns on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Filename Patterns.
The Filename Patterns tab displays a list of all filename patterns in your data catalog instance. Click the sort icon in the header of the Name or Last updated columns to sort that column in ascending or descending order. To search for a specific filename pattern, in the Search within data assets box, enter a complete or partial filename pattern name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshed to display filename patterns that match your search string.
Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the report. As you apply each filter, the list refreshes automatically. To refresh the list at any time, click Refresh.

To explore all the custom properties you create in a data catalog, click Custom Properties on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Custom Properties.
The Custom Properties tab displays a list of all custom properties in your data catalog instance. To sort a column in ascending or descending order, click the sort icon in the header of the Name or Usage count columns. You can search for a specific custom property by name. In the Search within data assets box, enter a complete or partial custom property name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshed to display custom properties that match your search string.
Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the report. As you apply each filter, the list refreshes automatically. To refresh the list at any time, click Refresh.
In the Custom Properties list, click a name to view details for the custom property.
Click the Actions menu for a custom property to perform other actions on a custom property.

Select View Details to view the custom property details.

To explore all the glossaries you create in a data catalog, click Glossaries on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Glossaries.
The Glossaries tab lists all the glossaries in your data catalog. Details for the glossaries are listed, such as updated by, description, and so on. Use sort to specify how you want the results to be displayed.
To search for a specific glossary by name, in the Search within glossaries box, enter a complete or partial glossary name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshes to display glossaries that match your search string.
Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the list. As you apply each filter, the list is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Glossaries list at any time, click Refresh.
In the Glossaries list, click a glossary name to view the glossary details.
Click the Actions menu for a glossary to perform additional actions on the glossary.

Select View Details to view or modify the glossary.

Select Delete to delete the glossary. A confirmation window displays. Type Delete to confirm you want to delete the glossary and then click Delete. Any terms created in the glossary are also deleted.

You can search for a specific term by name. In the Search within terms box, enter a complete or partial term name and click the search icon or press enter. The list refreshes to display terms that match your search string.
Using the available filters in the Filters section, you refine the list. As you apply each filter, the list is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Terms list at any time, click Refresh.
From the Terms list, click a term name to view the term details.
Click the Actions menu for a term to perform other actions on a term.

Select View to view or modify the term.

Select Delete to delete the term. A confirmation window displays. Type Delete to confirm you want to delete the term and then click Delete.
To explore all the jobs you create in a data catalog to harvest your data assets, click Jobs on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Jobs.
The Jobs tab lists all the jobs created in your data catalog. Click the sort icon in the header of the Started or Name column to sort that column in ascending or descending order. To search for a specific job by name, in the Search within jobs box, enter a complete or partial job name and click the search icon or press enter. The list refreshes to display jobs that match your search string.
Using the Status filter in the Filters section, you refine the list to display jobs of the selected status. As you select a job status, the list is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Jobs list at any time, click Refresh.
In the Jobs list, click a job name to view the job details.
Click the Actions menu for a job to perform additional actions on the job.

Select View to see the job details.

Select Re-run to run the job again.

Select Schedule to automate the job runs.

Select Delete to delete the job. A confirmation window displays. Click Delete.
To explore all the schedules you create in a data catalog to automate your harvest jobs, click Schedules on the Home tab. You can also click + from tabs and select Schedules.
The Schedules tab lists all the schedules created in your data catalog. To search for a specific schedule by name, in the Search within schedules box, enter a complete or partial schedule name and click the search icon or press enter. The list is refreshes to display schedules that match your search string.
Using the Schedule Start filter in the Filters section, you refine the list to display schedules with the specified start date. As you select a start date, the list is refreshed automatically. To refresh the Schedules list at any time, click Refresh.
Click the Actions menu for a schedule to perform additional actions on the schedule.

Select Edit to modify the scheduling information.

Select Delete to delete the schedule. A confirmation window displays. Click Delete.
